  • Athletes wearing adizero have won more gold medals in the fastest races (800 meters and sprint distances) than any other franchise, with five standing on the podium in Paris.
  • adidas athletes also broke two tournament records with Marileidy Paulino’s 400m and Tamirat Tola’s marathon victory.
  • Building on 17 world records broken in road races since 2020, the award-winning adizero collection of training and sprint running shoes helps athletes break records from the first race to elite championships

Paris, August 11, 2024: Today, as the world’s biggest celebration of sport draws to a close, adidas announces that athletes wearing adizero shoes have won more gold medals in the fastest races – 800m and sprint distances – and have earned more podium finishes in marathon distances than any other.

With victories in distances from the fastest sprint to the marathon, adizero secures its place as adidas’ most successful footwear collection in its 75-year history of innovation for athletes at this highest level.

In the fastest events, the 800m and sprint distances, adidas athletes wearing adizero shoes have dominated, winning 5 of the 12 gold medals, more than anyone else. This includes the men’s 100m, men’s 110m hurdles, men’s and women’s 400m, and men’s 800m.

Specifically, in the men’s 400 m and below sprint distances, adizero athletes accounted for 60% of all possible gold positions in individual events.

These incredible athletes wore the adidas Prime SP 3 Strung and adizero Prime SP 3 Strung x Y3 models, including the custom pair worn by Noah Lyles in his 100m power win. These shoes are backed by Adidas’ leading proprietary technologies. These include the cushioning and responsiveness benefits of Lightstrike Pro in the forefoot and the comfort and support of the Strung upper.

Adizero’s impact also influenced the tournament’s marathon races, as adizero athletes won 50% of the gold medals and 50% of all available podium spots thanks to Tamirat Tola’s record-breaking performance and time of 2:06:26, Tigist Assafa’s impressive silver medal on the final day of the events and Benson Kipruto’s audacious bronze.

Tamirat Tola sets new Olympic record in Paris 2024 marathon

This follows an excellent season for adizero-wearing athletes, including victories by Peres Jepchirchir and Alexander Mutiso in London. Sisay Lemma’s dominant performance was in Boston, and Benston Kipruto’s success was in the Japanese capital earlier this year.

All medal winners wore the ADIZERO Adios Pro Evo 1, the lightest marathon world-record-winning shoe in history. Since its introduction, it has helped adidas athletes break two world records and win 19 key races, including one Olympic record, four national records, four race records, and a debut in the world’s fastest marathon.

Since 2023, athletes wearing adizero shoes have won 51% of the top 50 races in the world, more than all others combined.

Adizero is adidas’ complete set of speed running shoes for racing and training. It is designed to democratize speed and break records for all runners, from the first race to elite championships.
