Agnes Ngetich has achieved the second-fastest time in history in the women’s race. The Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Zurich Half Marathon once again holds the two best historical records for the distance, both men’s and women’s.

Valencia, October 27, 2024 – Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha set a new men’s world record today by clocking in at 57:30 in the Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Zurich Half Marathon, following an epic race under the rain that he dominated from the very start.

The 2024 Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Zurich Half Marathon, which already held the women’s world record achieved by Letesenbet Gidey in 2021 (1:02:52), reclaims the title it had in 2020 and lost to Lisbon in 2021 by just one second (Jacob Kiplimo, 57:31). With this one-second advantage, it now sits atop the podium for the fastest 21.097 kilometers for both men and women.

After Kejelcha, Daniel Mateiko, with a time of 58:17, was the second-place finisher, followed by Isaia Kipkoech in third at 58:21.

In the women’s race, the winner was Agnes Ngetich, who crossed the finish line with an impressive 1:03:04, marking the second-fastest time in history and the best of the year. Fotyen Tesfay took second place at 1:03:21, while Lilian Kasait came in third at 1:03:32.

Women’s Spanish 21K Record

There was also good news for the Spanish runners, as Kaoutar Boulaid broke the women’s Spanish record with a time of 1:08:47, nearly a minute below the previous mark set by Laura Luengo in this same race last year (1:09:41). Luengo was the second Spanish runner to cross the line with a time of 1:08:50, also improving on her previous time. Irene Sánchez-Escribano, making her debut, finished third among the Spanish women with 1:09:10.

In the men’s category, Thierry Ndikumwenayo was the top Spanish finisher with a time of 59:42, followed by Ibrahim Chakir in second with 1:01:40 and Jorge Blanco in third with 1:01:45.
