Here is some key information about its strategy and main features:

Route Characteristics

Fast and flat course:

The route is famous for its flat profile, allowing runners to maintain a steady pace and aim for personal bests.

Minimum altitude of 4 meters above sea level.

Ideal Climate:

Average temperatures between 10-15°C, perfect for long-distance performance.

Start and Finish:

The start is at 8:15 a.m. for elite runners. Each runner must enter the box assigned to him/her according to the accredited mark. The boxes are identified by colors and numbers that correspond to those of the race bib. It is important to identify beforehand which is your box and its location. The boxes will be opened at 7:15 am. In order to access the starting box, the runner will be asked to show the race bib and the official bracelet of the race that is delivered with the bib.

The start is through the Monteolivete Bridge next to the City of Arts and Sciences. We recommend in these crowded exits to avoid crowds, avoid zigzagging to avoid falls. Also, have a controlled start and avoid going faster than your goals; this is a very common mistake in beginner runners.

The race passes through emblematic places such as the Paseo de la Alameda, the City of Arts and Sciences, and the historic center of Valencia.

The finish is not at the same point as the start, but it is quite close, which facilitates logistics for runners and spectators. It is on a spectacular floating walkway in the water, located in front of the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum, within the same complex. It is one of the most iconic finishes in the running world, ideal for memorable photos and videos. Enjoy it!

At the finish lin,e there will also be Aquabona water in a 50cl bottle and Aquarius (in a bottle). In post-finish, there will also be solid refreshments.

Take advantage of the flat profile to maintain a steady pace from the start, but be careful with the areas most exposed to wind. If you are not used to running on flat terrain, include specific training to adapt your body to a uniform and prolonged effort.

Strategy for Running the Valencia Marathon

1.- Manage your pace:

  • The flat profile may invite you to go out fast, but it is key to maintain a controlled pace, especially in the first 10 km.
  • Divide the race into three phases: the first 21 km to set the pace, 21-35 km to maintain your strategy, and the last 7 km for the final push.
  • We invite you to prepare your strategy with our pace calculator for this race.

2.- Nutrition and Provisions:

  • Practice with the products/brands they will offer at the race to avoid digestive problems.
  • Maintain a regular intake of carbohydrates and fluids during the race.
  • Plan your hydration by knowing the exact refreshment points.

3.- Analyze the Wind:

  • Although Valencia usually has optimal conditions, occasionally, wind can be a factor. Identify potentially windy sections and adjust your group strategy if necessary.

4.- Mental Training:

  • Familiarize yourself with the route to visualize key points.
  • Be prepared for the final stretch (kilometers 35-42), where physical and mental fatigue can play a role. Some users comment that from kilometer 36 to 38 is a less attractive route with little animation, which makes it more difficult.

5.- Visualize the route:

  • It is important to visualize in our mind the streets, routes. If you can’t do it by yourself, especially if you are not from the city, we recommend this video.
