The Rome Marathon 2025 took place on March 16, bringing together thousands of runners for an impressive course through the Italian capital.

The event enjoyed ideal weather conditions for running. It began with a special moment as the Frecce Tricolori, the Italian Air Force aerobatic squadron, flew over the Imperial Forums just minutes before the start.

Before the race began at the Colosseum, athletes observed 42 seconds of silence in honor of Pope Francis, symbolizing the marathon’s 42-kilometer distance.

Men’s Category Winners:

  1. Robert Ngeno (Kenya) – 2:07:35
  2. Brian Kipsang (Kenya) – 2:07:58 (+23s)
  3. Joshua Kogo (Kenya) – 2:08:01 (+26s)

Kenyan Robert Ngeno claimed victory with 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 35 seconds, taking control in the final kilometers and securing his first major win in the Italian capital.

The first Italian to cross the finish line was Daniele Meucci, finishing in eighth place at 2:12:43.

Women’s Category Winners:

  1. Betty Chepkwony (Kenya) – 2:26:16
  2. Selam Fente Gebre (Ethiopia) – 2:28:22 (+2m 06s)
  3. Rebecca Kangogo (Kenya) – 2:31:16 (+5m)
  4. Euliter Tanui (Kenya) – 2:33:06 (+6m 50s)

In the women’s category, Betty Chepkwony of Kenya dominated the race, crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 16 seconds, securing a commanding victory over her competitors.

Although no new course records were set this year, the current records remain:

  • Women’s record: Kebede Megertu Alemu (Ethiopia) – 2:22:52 (2019)
  • Men’s record: Asbel Rutto (Kenya) – 2:06:24 (2024)
