The Tokyo Marathon 2025 took place on Sunday, March 2, in the Japanese capital, once again establishing itself as one of the most exciting events in the World Marathon Majors. The race started at 9:10 a.m. local time and brought together an elite group of international runners along with thousands of amateur participants.
Men’s results
In the men’s category, Ethiopia’s Tadese Tekele won with an official time of 2:03:23 in his marathon debut. Second place went to his compatriot Deresa Galeta, who finished in 2:03:49, while Kenya’s Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich secured third place with 2:04:00, repeating his position from 2024.
The pre-race favorite, Kenya’s Benson Kipruto, finished in sixth place with 2:05:44, far from his course record of 2:02:16, which won him last year’s edition.

Women’s results
In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Sutume Asefa Kebede successfully defended her title from last year, crossing the finish line in 2:16:31 and confirming her dominance in the event. Kebede set a strong pace early on and widened her lead in the race’s second half, although she slowed down in the final kilometer.
Second place went to Kenya’s Winfridah Moraa Moseti, who finished in 2:16:54, while Ethiopia’s Hawi Feysa completed the podium in 2:16:58.
One of the most emotional moments of the day was Paula Radcliffe’s return. At 51 years old, she ran a marathon for the first time in 10 years. The former world record holder and champion of London, New York, and Chicago finished 111th overall at 2:57:21. Radcliffe has already announced that she will run the Boston Marathon in a month.
