Mitja Marató and Zurich Marató Barcelona: 2026 confirmed after historic 2025
Barcelona, June 5, 2025 – The Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks and the Zurich Marató Barcelona already have their dates confirmed for their next editions and will open registration next week. The Mitja will take place on Sunday, February 15, 2026, while the Marató will be held one month later, on Sunday, March 15. Both races will once again place Barcelona at the heart of the international running scene, further consolidating its position as one of Europe’s leading athletics capitals.
Highlights of the 2025 edition of the Mitja Marató by Brooks:
- Over 30,000 runners took to the start line — a record figure for the second consecutive year.
- 40% female participation, with more than 12,000 women taking part.
- 40% international participation, with athletes from 95 different countries.
On the sporting side, the event was a record-breaking day:
- Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo broke the half marathon world record with a time of 56:42, improving the previous record by 48 seconds. He led the race from kilometer 5, with an impressive 10K split of 26:46.
- Kenyan Joyciline Jepkosgei defended her title and broke the women’s course record with 1:04:11, shaving 27 seconds off her 2024 mark.
Under the slogan Feel the Beat, the Mitja once again became a true city-wide celebration, with over 120,000 spectators lining the streets and 22 entertainment points along the course. The first edition of PaRunda, the official post-race party held at Poble Espanyol, was also a huge success, attracting over 3,500 attendees with live music, DJs, food trucks, and an unbeatable atmosphere.
The Zurich Marató Barcelona will celebrate its 47th edition on Sunday, March 15, 2026, following a historic 2025 edition that further cemented its status among Europe’s most prestigious marathons.
Highlights of the 2025 edition of the Zurich Marató Barcelona:
- 27,000 bibs sold, the highest participation since 2016.
- More than 6,500 women took part, representing 25% female participation.
- 60% international participation, with athletes from 109 countries.
New course records in both categories:
- Ethiopian Tesfaye Deriba won with a time of 2:04:13, lowering the previous record by 48 seconds.
- In the women’s race, Kenyan Sharon Chelimo set a new course record with 2:19:33.
The event also hosted the 87th Spanish Marathon Championships and the 47th Catalan Marathon Championships.
Once again, the Zurich Marató Barcelona turned into a major city-wide celebration, with over 200,000 spectators cheering along the course and 34 entertainment points throughout the route.
Barcelona is now gearing up to pulse with energy once more in February and March 2026, welcoming thousands of runners from around the world for two races that have become true international benchmarks: the Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks (February 15) and the Zurich Marató Barcelona (March 15).
