The TCS Sydney Marathon 2025, presented by ASICS, joins the elite running world as the newest member of the Abbott World Marathon Majors.
With a projected of 35,000 runners, the next edition of this prestigious event promises to be unforgettable, attracting participants from all corners of the globe to Sydney’s breathtaking sights and vibrant atmosphere.
After an incredible surge in popularity during the Abbott World Marathon Majors bid period, and a récord number of 25,000 runners in 2024, the TCS Sydney Marathon course presented by ASICS has established itself as one of the best in the world.
Improved Sydney Marathon Route
Committed to providing a quality experience, the organizers have optimized the course, eliminating narrow sections and reducing the number of U-turns, as well as bringing forward the start time. These changes mark a new milestone in the history of the event and offer an enhanced experience for all participants.
The route allows the runner to experience Sydney’s most spectacular and historic landmarks, such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, along the way.
The organization has implemented changes to achieve faster times and a better experience for the runner, regardless of time targets, thereby, they say, “ensuring that we deliver a world-class course that meets the standards expected by the community and participants”.
Among the changes is the start of the race itself, which celebrates Sydney 2000, as it will be from Miller Street, next to the North Sydney Oval, as in the historic start line of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Marathon. In addition, the narrow sections around Darling Harbour and Pyrmont were eliminated, introducing longer and straighter sections.
In summary, after crossing the Harbour Bridge in the first few kilometers and running through areas such as Circular Quay, Pyrmont, and Centennial Park, runners reach the final stretch towards the Opera House, creating a spectacular close to the race. This finish line location, in addition to the vibrant atmosphere and harbor view, adds a unique touch to the event.

Race strategy and recommendations
The Sydney Marathon course features a challenging elevation profile with several climbs and descents, making this route a hilly undulating course.
While not extremely elevated, the route does require runners to be prepared to deal with these variations in terrain, especially in the first half, where there are steeper sections near the Harbour Bridge at the start of the race and the Opera House at the finish line.
In terms of strategy, runners should consider their pace and energy to tackle the climbs without expending all their energy, saving strength for the second half of the course. This is important, as wear and tear on the hills can affect performance in the final kilometers.
We recommend using our race pace calculator that takes into account the altimetry and elevations of the route. There you can also download the .gpx file
