The Ethiopian athlete breaks the 10k FACSA Castelló race record, surpassing the 2024 mark.
Additionally, the 10k has set a new national record for Venezuela, achieved by Edymar Brea Abreu.
CASTELLÓ, February 16 – The twelfth edition of the 10k FACSA Castelló 2025 took place, highlighting an elite field of athletes and the presence of international runners aiming to improve their personal bests. The race has established itself as a favorite among athletes due to its flat and minimally curved course, once again bringing remarkable times and records from around the world to the city.
The Mayor of Castellón, Begoña Carrasco, the City Council’s Sports Councilor, Maica Hurtado, the General Director of Sports of the Generalitat Valenciana, Luís Cervera, Sergio Toledo as a representative of the Diputació de Castelló, Eva Andrés, communications coordinator at bp Castellón, Patricia Agrasar, head of service at FACSA, Juanma Medina, race director, and Iracema Cambronero, president of Club d’Atletisme Running Castelló, welcomed the athletes before the race began.
At 9:00 AM, the race started from Avenida Vila Real, and in less than 27 minutes, the first runner crossed the finish line, coming close to the world record. Ethiopian athlete Yomif Kejelcha was the first to finish with an impressive time of 26:31, breaking the race record previously set in 2024 by Tadesse Worku (27:02). The podium was completed by Ethiopian Kuma Girma (26:58) in second place, and Kenyan Brian Kibor (27:05) in third.
In the women’s category, Ethiopian Medina Eisa, making her 10k race debut, clocked 29:25. The second-place finisher was Likina Amebaw, also from Ethiopia, with 29:40, and third place went to Ethiopian Aynaddis Mebrathu, who finished in 30:05.
A special mention goes to Edymar Brea Abreu, who set a new Venezuelan national record in the women’s 10k, finishing with a time of 31:47.
Regarding the regional classification, all times surpassed those of 2024. The winners of this edition were Víctor Ortiz Rivera (29:03) in the men’s category and Alexa Giménez Barber (36:18) in the women’s category. In the local classification, Pedro García (31:26) won the 10k FACSA Castelló in the men’s category, while Adoración Iniesta (36:26) won in the women’s category.
The 10k FACSA Castelló is a race that attracts more runners each year and, like the 42k event, has once again been awarded the World Athletics Road Race Label. Both races have become international benchmarks and have exceeded participation expectations.
